AnKhe

My Vietnamese buddy at work was in the ARVN. He was taken prisoner at the end of the war in '75 and held at a camp north of highway 19,on the west side of the mountains below the Mang Yang pass.I asked if this camp was a former U.S. position, he said no, just a place they cleared out in the jungle. When he was released in the early 80's he was making his way to the coast to QuiNhon for a boat ride to Saigon. I asked if he saw anything of Camp Radcliff at AnKhe. He said nothing left - the people around there used everything for their houses.
I was thinking of Ankhe in 1969, the giant PX there was amazing. Like a huge department store.
About the sapper attack in Nov.69, my article says a sapper climbed a water tower and kept the company pinned down before being driven off. I remember two towers in the company area- one back by the motor pool near the maintenance hooches and the other right next to 1st flight hooch. I was never sure which one he was firing from- could have been the one right over our bunker. Any one have any recollections or thoughts on this ?
